MG MGB Technical - Can I pre-fill my transmission?
I am putting the engine/transmission back in my B this weekend. I was wondering if I could get away with putting at some of the oil in the transmission while it's out of the car and easier to get to the side plug? It seems like it would stay in there... Thanks! David |

David. I can't say whether that is a good idea or not, but as the gear stick assy is not fitted to the g/box on installation (I remove the turret held on by the 4 bolts) you can easily fill it through the big hole. That's the way I do it. Quick and easy. Cheers Tony |

I would imagine that oil could leak out of the breather fitting when you tilt the engine-transmission assembly to get it in place. |

No problem, as long as you have the remote fitted you can fill it before fitting to the car. Garth |

Thank you all. Everything is installed on the transmission (it's an overdrive), so I'll give it a go and hopefully it will work, or else I'll have a version of the Exxon Valdez on my garage floor! |

It worked! I put about 5 pints in, nothing came out during installation. So, now just a top off if needed and that's it. Much easier, that. I also (this time) attached my speedometer cable, overdrive and reverse light wiring when the unit was suspended in the engine bay. ~David |
