MG MGB Technical - carb gasket sealant
hi all, a quick question, i've just picked up some gasket paper to cut out some new gaskets for my carbs, what if any sealant should i use? appreciate your thoughts, cheers, Graham |

Where are the gaskets being fitted? As far as I know no sealant should be used-the gasket itself should be the seal. |

between heat shield and spacer, spacer and carb and carb and filter (3 per carb) |

No sealant but IIRC they are not paper. The carb to filter is card; the heat shield to spacer a metallic faced one;-can't remember about the remaining one, tho it is probably card again. |

ah, maybe i'd better off getting the correct gaskets, i'm trying to correct my backfire problem and carb gaskets are on my list of things to eliminate! thanks |

Gasoline will melt most gasket sealers. Hylomar is one of the few that will stand up to it. RAY |

Draw a flat file over the faces first to ensure that they are flat and not bowed if they are then file gently until an even witness is achieved over the complete face. Then assemble all gaskets dry without any sealant or at the very most a smear of grease. |
