MG MGB Technical - Cast Iron Water Pump Source
I am in need of a water pump for my 67 BGT and am wondering if the cast iron "good ones" are still available. I have the Moss A/C unit and the extra wear will destroy the aluminum aftermarket pumps pretty straightaway I am afraid. Seems like the QH ones are the aluminum replacements most parts houses sell. Appreciate any recommendation. Ralph |

Hi R. I'm doing the same thing with the Moss AC unit. Sent a cast-iron pump to World Wide Auto Parts, Madison, WI, to be rebuilt. Contact is Peter Caldwell. I believe they may have cores available for rebuilding if you know which pump you need. Do a google search for the company. Tom |

Thanks Tom. I will talk to them and see what they have to offer. Ralph |

When I purchased my supercharger kit from Moss a cast iron pump was included in the kit. They knew that the alumminum pump would not hold up. I'm suprised that it was not included in the A/C kit. I've been running the supercharger and cast iron pump since it hit the market for my '67 and have had no problems with the pump. RAY |

Moss direct supply cast iron ones. Just bought one. Sub-suppliers might not be the same. |

World Wide Auto Parts is at http://www.nosimport.com They do very nice work. In addition to water pumps they do a fantastic rebuild on lever arm shocks. |

I had mine done by Peter @world wide auto and they did a wonderful job,Rich |

I had a replacement alloy pump many many years ago, and soon afterwards it started dripping very slightly during warm-up. I bought a cast-iron but left the alloy one in there waiting for it to get worse and be worth changing ... and I'm still waiting about 20 years and 50k miles later! |

Rich, the new ones from Moss direct ARE cast iron. P/N 460-950 USD$48.95 |

Sorry guys, correction. It is the MGA water pump I bought. I thought it was the same for the B, but the part numbers are different. |

MGA and 3-main MGB have a smaller diameter impeller than the 5-main cars, plus there was the long-nose variant on the mid-year cars. |

"plus there was the long-nose variant on the mid-year cars" Indeed, but they seem to be completely interchangeable with the short nose on the same engine. |
