Several years ago I had a Blaupunkt CD/radio put in my 1974 MGB. The job was done by a local stereo place and works really well. My car has a console ahead of the shifter where the radio is. ownly trouble is the car is so load above 40MPH it is hard to hear. |

A new Pioneer slid right into my 73B Roadster. It was the standard cage box size that they all seem to be made at now. BH |

Piece o' cake. The brace behind the center console has a cutout for the radio. So, nothing needs to change on the car. The console may need to be converted from the obsolete shaft mount to the standard rectangular hole, but that's it. I'm assuming you're not going for 100-point concours originality here. Door speakers are actually the trickiest part of your install - you need shallow ones, or you'll need spacers. (the backs of the speakers will hit the window winding mechanism; be prepared for that!) I'm running four 4" speaks and a small powered subwoofer behind the seats, with great results. Go small - even a very small powered sub will rock the house in a little car like this - but do not omit the sub, as your car will drown out all the bass otherwise. That sub really made the system come alive. Which, in turn, made driving that much nicer :) |

I have a Sony AM/FM Stereo CD, that is the exact same size as my standard MG radio, in my 73 MGB. Measure your existing radio and then do searches for CD players sizes. They usually will list the overall dimensions. Cheers, Robert |

Many do fit, although you may need to reposition the wiring and fresh-air tube slightly to get the unit fully back. 77 and later models produced from June 76 had door speakers fitted as standard. Measure the depth of the space you have available, not your existing unit, which *may* be smaller than current models and a deeper unit may well still fit. |

I have just finished doing a bit of an upgrade to my '72 B. Most head units will fit in without a hassle, I had to file back the plastic around the rectangular opening a few millimeters, but that was all. I'm using a Sony unit, which feeds an amp in the boot - it's really easy to run cable under either of the seats and up beside the battery. They then feed two blaupunkt monitors in the rear and two Alpine S-type components which I've mounted in the foot compartments. I would recommend placing speakers down there if you are not planning to run a sub. And definitely use component speakers. |
