MG MGB Technical - Change Early Hood to late Hood

I Have a early grey folding hood frame on my 69 MGB. I know that this is the correct one for the year but, the later black frame folds much easier. Can I change the frame to the black one?. I would want to transfer the hood material to the new frame

I had the stowable frame on my 1969 MGC and replaced it with the scissors frame from a 1976 MGB. But, I also used a NEW hood rather than the hood that was used with the stowable frame.

The header rail should be the same .... but I don't know if the actual shape of the frame would vary between the two ... and this ***may*** caus an ill-fit or non-fit situation....

Perhaps someone else can chime in...

Well, I've taken a few more minutes looking and tracking everything through the fuse block on the Advance wiring diagram. I'm looking at the 73/74 diagram #16 and #17 (I think my care most closely looks like #17).

I've come to the conclusion there are no internal connections on the block other the the front upper two sets of spade connectors. That would mean the front of the fuse block is the feed side of the fuse, and the back side is the fused side.

Right?

Thanks,

Don,
I replaced my gray 69 hood frame with the later black frame...straight swap. The black folding frame is much better.

Well I did it the other way and changed to an early grey frame. the foldable interfears with seatbelts and rattles when down. But I found the later hood does not fit the grey frame.
If like me the hood is only used when caught by a cloudburst or moaning about "messing my hair up" the stowaway is much better.

You will almost certainly have to change both frame and top together, as the tops changed size and shape slightly over the years. Some combinations seem not to have enough width of material between the tops of the drop-glasses, and the result is a gaping hole each side you can put your hand in without touching the sides. The other thing to consider when changing the top is the supplier and quality. Some I have seen are a very poor fit. When restoring my roadster some 17 years ago I was going to replace the top, as although the one on the car when I bought it was quite new is was a bottom of the range el-cheapo, although it fitted quote well. I then started seeing some very poor fits on runs and at shows, and decided to hang on to mine as long as I could. I still have it, it's still a good fit, and is still sound.
