MG MGB Technical - Distributor plate positioning
Finishing the head installation and you know I had to paint the block while I was at it. Refitting the distributor, and question came up what is the correct postion for the locking plate? With the tightening bolt on top or on the bottom? My books show the vacuum advance pointing up towards the heater valve, but can't see the actual clamping plate orientation. |

Bruce,I just went out and looked at mine.....bolt on top,hope that helps,regards,Rich O |

Top on mine and in several images in Clausager, bottom would probably make it much more difficult to get at. |

Top normally - it is less accessible below. Make sure you get it the right way up too - the ends have a kink in them so that the middle section stands up from the engine housing - this gives a surer grip on the dissy. |

Thanks all. I took the plate off to clean the housing and should have known to take a picture or a note on how it went. |

Mine has been mounted to the bottom by a PO and although is do-able it's a real pain to slacken off. It's on my growing list of 'tinkering jobs' to do later this year. |
