MG MGB Technical - Door Hinges
I have some later model doors that I plan to use in my '70 MGB. However, I notice in various parts catalogs that the later door hinges (77 - 80) have different part numbers for the lower hinges than the earlier ones. Are the bolt patterns identical to the older ones - i.e., can I bolt up the later model doors using my older hinges? |

I have put the late hinges on ALL of my M.G.s with late doors for the extra stiffner, for the safty. I drill the door hinge & put in the long 1/4 inch zerk that were used on the mgm lower A arm & I grease the door hinges. lol. |

I plan to use the later doors, but I don't have the later hinges. Can I just go ahead and use the earlier hinges? I like the idea of the grease fittings. |

Glenn, Another question - do you have a picture of the hinge with the grease fitting installed? Joe |

The bottom hinge on the later cars is fitted with a check to hold the door open - that's right isn't it? Other than that, I think early and late hinges are the same and are interchangeable. |

On my 78B it is as Mike says. The bottom hinges (was it the bottom ones? I took them off without paying attention!) have some spring steel clips in the hinge to hold the door open. What I am trying to figure out is if it is possible to get replacement rubber buffer blocks for the hinges. Or if I can modify some rubber blocks from something else to use in their place. Simon |
