MG MGB Technical - Early 1974 MGB with rubber bumper blocks
My 1974 MGB has rubber bumper blocks (2 per bumper) on the chrome bumpers. These are mounted much like the chrome bumper guards were. They were the transition between the full chrome bumpers and the rubber bumpers. How rare are these cars and how does that affect the collectability and value of those cars?I would think due to the short time of those they would be fairly rare. Thank you for any insight. According to Clausager, the new style bumpers with rubber overriders were introduced in January 1974 to comply with US legislation. Approximately 21,000 cars had this style bumper until September 1974 when the rubber bumper model was introduced. |

'Sabrina' overriders, after a buxom blonde of the period. Yes, I'd say pretty rare by now. |

Watching Wheeler Dealers last night working on a 73 Mustang Mach 1. That apparently had something very similar (same legislation of course) which was why it had been converted to a 72. |

Lots of MGBs were also 'converted' to pre '73 in recent years! |
