MG MGB Technical - EDIS - Some questions

Hello all,

A few months ago there was a thread about this. I final got my system up and running today. Fired up first crank, after the car has been sitting for 6 months. (I primed for oil pressure first)

Now I was reading in the Ford literature there is a way to set the SAW (Spark Angle Word) to allow this unit to work a Multiple Spark Discharge unit, on the lower RPM's. This was accomplished by tripling the advance in the Ford language.

Does anyone know if this is applicable to Kimmel unit? I e-mailed him a while back and he was not 100% sure. I am using the Megajolt software.

Thanks,
Shareef

Shareef- What initial mapp are you using? Clearly, past users have all sung the praises of setting the 800-1100 RPM boxes up to 25-33* advance to produce a rock steady idle. Doesn't Mat let the buyer choose ECM flavor? So any and all will work they say. Now, what was he not "sure" about then 'ol stick? Cheers, Vic

Here is quote from Matt Kimmel's site.

The EDIS module has the capability of performing recurring spark, more commonly referred to as Multiple Spark Discharge. The latter is usually associated with CD ignition boxes. This feature was introduced with the 1990 1.9L Escort/Tracer engine. The ECU enables the MSD below 1800RPM on these engines. To signal to the EDIS module that MSD is desired, the SAW is lengthened by 2048us on 4/6/8 cylinder units, and 1024us on 10 cylinder units. The EDIS module can achieve up to 3 sparks per cylinder event using this feature.

My question is how to tell Megajolt software to do this.

Thanks,
Shareef

Shareef,
What I think Vern is trying to say is, did you map out all of the timing? Where did you get your settings etc... Because gains would be more in setting it up properly than getting the MSD on a car that isnt fully maped out. Im sure Vern is curious as I am in knowing how you have or are going to go about this.

Thanks,

Shareef- Yes, James follow is correct. The stock Ford/Motorcraft EDIS plot for the advance curve won't due for the MGB engine as we all know. I was asking for the map plan you used via the Megajolt controller. I started with a map found on one of Mat's referral links. Perhaps we could get to the chase if you image attach a plot of your cells. Or embed in an e-mail to me off-board and we can look over the critical sections of advance between 2500-4800 RPM's. Again, for nosey, what do you tip over at? Around 5.5k or so?

Dear All,

Actually I have not been on the road with it yet. I have just bed in a new cam with it. I think that we have started with the same map off one of the referal sites. I can export the file to you.
