MG MGB Technical - Engine Block - Oil Gallary Plugs

Hello,

I've had my block cleaned and all the oil gallary plugs removed.

Alas I've replaced all but one.

There is a large plug (about 16.40mm in diameter) which leads into the oil pump. It's in the middle (ish) of the block on the exhaust side.

Does anyone have and original Service Parts List which may list the part number for this brass plug ?

Many Thanks
Mark

Mark, I have a BMC dealers parts book from '65 that lists the oil plug part number as 1H 813, but doesn't show a plug going into the hole that you show in the photo. Perhaps it is installed from the inside of the block. RAY

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your reply but I think that is a much smaller plug, as it features here in the front of the block on the mga 1622 engine.

Anyone got a block to hand, they can take a photo of the plug in situ?

And can perhaps confirm the size,,as my block is now n the car.

Thanks
Mark

Keith makes ours at 15.91 if you mean the one that goes up at an angle and blocks off the end of the distributor drive. Get a local shop to turn one down from brass for you.

Or knock it out from the inside with a long drift through the distributor drive hole. Clean up & re-use with the help of a good grade of Loctite. There is not much pressure behind this one, so safe to re-use like this.

I'm really struggling with a solution here.

Does anyone know the part number of this plug please.

15.91 looks to big.

Thanks

Why do you not measure the hole and get somebody to make the plug? Or at least give us something real to work with. Quit talking about things in this manner: "15.91 looks to big."
You are posting in MGB for a MGA/TC/whatever - your mileage may vary. OE part numbers mean nothing when you or me do not know what you have. There are likely no parts available under any number anyway. With real data, somebody, including me, can make what you need.

Mark,

I'm confused. In your original post, you said it was about 16.40 mm. So, why does 15.91 mm look too big?

Just had a look at an "empty" block. If it's the plug on the exhaust side 2/3rds from the front, i'm with Peter and Keith. Near as dam it 5/8". That will be the hole diameter, the plug an interference fit.
