MG MGB Technical - Engine information
On a 1974 MGB with Engine ID DEK1268C -012 and a 45D4 41831A distributor I fitted a 123 ignition, as the above dizzy and engine are not listed in the 123 documentation I set the curve selection on A. The engine runs but not very good. The must be a better setting. Anyone have some information about this engine and dizzy? Best regards, Jacob |

Jacob We need to know what 123 you have. the MG-4 or the GB-4 The curves are different. Denis |

Denis, it is the MG-4 |

I bought a TC some years ago that ran very well on the flat but wouldn't climb hills. I checked the timing to find it retarded, set to correct timing and it flew up the hills (for a TC that is). Just a thought. Don TF 4887 (and TC and MGB) |

Jacob I have found No8 works well with the static set at 3* instead of TDC. If it pings bring it back closer to TDC static. Most of the stations on the MG4 reach maximum advance at too high revs but No8 and No6 are better. Try and end up with about 32* total advance (vacuum disconnected). The GB4 has more stations that suit. I feel the MG4 was designed with most of the OE curves many of which were more anti-pollution than performance. Remember though all cars are a little different. I looked up that dizzy number, and found it was out of a 2.25 l Land Rover. Unfortunately no curve info, but maybe you could try in a Land Rover site for the engine number Herb ![]() |

I searched for "engine DEK1268C -012" and one of the hits was for a land rover engine. Herb |
