MG MGB Technical - ENGINE MOUNTS

I get a lot of resonance from the engine, trasmitted through the body. The engine itself is reasonably smooth, for a B, and I have replaced the exhaust and rear mounts recently, so I have to assume the, seeemingly very hard but good condition, engine mounts are not damping out some of the engine vibrations. Are there any "improved" engine mounts out there with a little more compliance? It is possible, of course that a previous owner has used uprated, i.e., stiffer mounts, if such a thing exists.
Allan Reeling

V8 mounts are said to be stiffer than the round mounts used on rubber bumper 4-cylinder cars, the part numbers are certainly different. Not aware of any options for the earlier rectangular, which isn't to say their aren't any.

Allan there are heavy duty mounts for the early cars.

Old ones usually go soggy not harder!

The uprated mounts for a chrome bumper are a grey colour compared to black for standard mounts.

In what way are they "heavy duty"? Do they do a better job of damping vibration, or are they merely have a longer service life?
Stephen Strange

I have had more trouble with resonance from the exhaust mounts than from the engine mounts. I see you recently replaced those. Still, I would look at those with a critical eye.
John Lifsey

Thanks John, you could have something there. I've put a urethane centre mount on and it has improved things. Today's engine, gearbox and exhaust mounts seem to be made from a very inflexible material. Note I don't refer to it as "rubber". Yet another in the long line of poorly produced product, sourced from some eastern sweat shop! Will have to try replacing the "cotton bobbins" with something more compliant. Work in progress!!
