MG MGB Technical - Fenders

Require assistance to determine the difference between the front fenders of a M.G.B and M.G.B G.T. . Thank -you John
J .R.C Cavey

None.
Roger W

Fenders for MGB do differ from those on a MGB/GT.

The fenders on an MGB have provisions (= big rectangular
holes) for mounting the windscreen frame.

MGB/GT fenders do not have these holes.
Daniel Wong

Daniel - Haven't seen your name pop up here for some time. Good to know you are still with us. Cheers - Dave
David DuBois

May I add a further inquiry to John's. I've been offered a couple of very good quality GT front fenders and am wondering how difficult it would be to modify them for use on a '70 roadster. What would I be getting myself into by attempting this? Thanks - Danny
D Dyke

ahhhhhhhhh Wings!
P M Gregory

Ahhhhhhhh, Why, oh why do we call them differently. Perhaps in their native land they feel somewhat flighty, while over here they feel the need to be more pushy. Who said B's didn't have souls! Perhaps new wings for my B will help it fly once again!
D Dyke

Wings/fenders I can understand, but 'rocker panels' for sills?
Paul Hunt

bumpers fend off ! - fenders = wings ? - divided by a common language ? - united in an insane but common interest. JRRCC sorry. Daniel is correct.
Danny - everything is possible but not necessarily sensible or cost-effective.
Roger W

Hello Roger . Divided by a common language at times is when one make assumptions without first having a complete understanding of the issue . Such is the case here . Roger the question is and I repeat .What is the difference between the two models of fenders . Your answer was none . Obviously you have learned since, that there is, which in a vague sense you have acknowledged.although, you have failed to answer the question in specific terms and as such we are unable to derive any benefit to evaluate and make decisions In other words be specific and exact. Now lets take this a step further. Cost effectiveness is another assumption you have made without knowing the many, many variables that enter the equation .This is very evident by the fore-mentioned . Roger, there is times when silence is golden . In closing I will leave you with this thought. I will also convey to you that G.T. fenders can be easily modified to suit the Roadster at a reasonable cost. Your friend from across the pond . John
J .R.C Cavey

prickly as ever John

very early in the thread I was going to suggest you also refer to them as wings but remembered previous posts from you and that you'd not take the advice well

in that spirit and the fact that the only threads and posts from you, that I've seen, are for selling parts I will, to "be specific and exact", point out that this is not the sales section of the site

and a happy festive season to you John ;-)
Nigel Atkins

Hello Nigel . We meet again and thank-you for giving me the opportunity to ask you to clearly define the difference between the two models of fenders, which by the way was the original theme of the thread . "was it not " Off on another tangent again Nigel . How unfortunate ! Have a happy festive season to you as well . John
J .R.C Cavey

so you're not selling the fenders then?

as you've already got your fender answer, allow me to ask you precisely why you have a space between the J and the full stop on the presentation of your name here?

I don't believe in any festive seasons but I'll accept the return in the spirit it was given to you :-)
Nigel Atkins

Hello Nigel . What an interesting question "it is for me to know and for you to wonder " Off on another tangent" Nigel John
J .R.C Cavey

it lacks precision !
Nigel Atkins

Wings or fenders - who cares? But there are two main differences between roadster and GT wings. First, as stated above, the roadster wing has a socking great hole in it for the windscreen leg, and second the seam where the wing joins the shroud below the screen is a different shape. On a roadster this seam is straight, on a GT it is a double curve.
Mike Howlett

Hello Mike. You are indeed correct!!!!! who cares! !!!! Thank-you for defining the difference between the two fenders. With this information we are now able to examine the feasibility of converting G.T. fenders over to Roadster units . You have confirmed what others have said that they are not interchangeable and to convert them over will require implementing some structural changes. We will now examine in detail what these structural changes will entail . Once again thank-you Mike and Season Greeting's John
J .R.C Cavey

John,
another matter of precision now - why isn't there a full stop after the initial C?
Nigel Atkins

Nigel Atkins, asked: John (J.R.C Cavey),
another matter of precision now - why isn't there a full stop after the initial C?
Perhaps C isn't an abbreviation.

Talking of C or sea, what do our transatlantic cousins call those rubber balls or sausages that you hang over the side of your boat (if you can't get tyres or tires) to stop it scratching the keyside? We call them fenders.
Mike Standring

These are what I call fenders :-)

Brian Shaw

We call them mud guards over here (the steel panels over the wheels ; not the guitars!) Often shortened to guards.
John
John Minchin

Mudguard: A slang term (Australian) given to a person with little or no hair upon their head.

MUDGUARD = Shiny on top with sh*t underneath.
Mike Ellsmore

Mike (Standring),
the C has had a full stop put in by John as a sign off on another post - >> J. R.C.Cavey <<

note the space between the J. and R.

John,
mud guards over here are the pieces that go directly over the tyres like on push bikes
Nigel Atkins

I have a couple of pictures online from when I converted a late CB GT wing to an early roadster one, they can be found at http://johan.garmer.se/MGB/to1.html and a two "Next" forward.
