MG MGB Technical - Fitting an abingdon spoiler

Just bought an abingdon front spoiler from the mgoc site and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on the best way of fitting it?

Is this the special Tuning style item? You can see the my car next to a standard B in the attached. Top's up at last years "Summer" Day Out. I had the bumpers off to re-chrome them when I fitted mine but you do have to take it off plus the two mounting blades that attach to the front chassis legs . Then it just bolts up in plce of the standard valence. Mine is fibre glass so stone damage does not cause rust and it helps handling as well as giving more excess power at higher speeds (or lower drag). Downside is if there is a hidden rock in the grass your car will be the one to find it. I have had to repair splits both sides where this has happened, but it's not hard to do.

ah yes this was puzzling me, i wasnt sure if taking off the front valence was the right move or not, but it makes sense now!!

an yes it is the special tuning item, i particularly liked it because it already has a section on either side to fit extra road lights.

im also finding that, especally around london what with the speed humps every 30 seconds, that being lower now means more care!

i do like the way the older cars sit better on the road, the suspension on the later models rides alot higher!

would you happen to have a leaded head stil or have you made the switch to unleaded head? its something i have heard mixed responces on, eg an unleaded head can create problems etc
any advice on that one??

Did your ST spoiler come with mounting holes pre-drilled? The one I got from Moss originally did not, it was a pain in the neck. Then I got a Sebring style valance from somewhere I'll not mention - the fit was horrible. I'm going back to an ST...! Makes a massive difference to stability over about 60mph.

I've got one to fit on my GT V8 project. I always found the MGB was a bit unstable once you got up to motorway speeds (and above).

It's been on about 12 years now, I think it came with 2 square holes that lined up well with the mounting blades, but i have been to sleep since then, i agree that at motorway speeds the car tracks as steady as a Rock (not a northern one !)

I installed the fiberglass dam on my V8 conversion to add stability and cooling effect. This it did nicely but the unit was so flimsy that I re-enforced the top lip with additional fiberglass cloth to strengthen it. I hit a racoon one evening at pretty good speed and the re-enforced flange held up nicely , but had some serious repair to do on the lower section, which was accomplished with good results.They are just fine --but dont hoit anything !!

Gil's experience is mine as well. It would be nice to have an ST spoiler in ABS or Polyurethane.

The Moss unit I bought was flimsy and you could see light through it before painting. That is not what I have been used to with other fiberglass parts on other cars.
