MG MGB Technical - Flywheel bolts 18V
I have a job which requires removal of the flywheel bolts to replace a backplate gasket. The bots have such a shallow head that my 3/4" socket is not gripping. What is the magic trick to remove these? |

Dominic I've found that some sockets have too much of a lead/taper at the start and that doesn't really mix with these shallow bolt heads- The fix is to face the end of the socket till it's nice and flat with the grooves etc all right down to the flat end to get a good grip, some sockets need 2-3mm off to get them looking good Cheers willy |

Dominic, make sure you use a six point socket not a 12 point. I usually use an impact gun, but it can bugger up the heads! Colin |

There is a school of thought that the bolts should always be replaced with new. I have shifted the bolts on an 1800 after I borrowed a six point socket but have had to drill them out of a 3.5. Not as difficult as you might think. |

I agree 100% with William Revitt. Discovered this resolutiom many years back. I had to find out the hard way by myself. As "they" say - experience is the best teacher! Maurie |
