MG MGB Technical - Front Bumper Bar Installation

Hi All

Just picked up a chrome bumper bar for the front of my 67 GT. This is the add on bar that sticks up above the regular bumper in the center of the grill.

Anyone who hase one give me the correct way of installing it.

Is there a specific name for this bar?
BEC Cunha

If it's one of the AMCO bars, it passes over the front of the bumper with the mounting tabs tucking under and behind the bottom edge of the bumper. The bolt holes in the bar mounting tabs slide on and are fixed to the inner two bumper mounting bolts.

From your description, might be what we call a 'nudge' bar.

If it is about 1/2 inch in diameter and 18 inches long then it is a badge bar, used to mount club badges on special clamps that fit round the bar and screw into (usually) two holes at the bottom of the badge.

There you go. You pin badges, we clear roos from the cars path!!
Roger T

Well, we don't have too many roos on the roads over here, except for those who drive BMWs...
Chris at Octarine Services

Ah! Bounding BMWs?
Roger T

The bar is about 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter and appears to fit about where the overriders are.

Does the bar go behind the overriders,or replace the overriders. Will take some pictures of it tonight.

Don't have a brand.

Bruce,

A photo on my club magazine cover this month of a 72 Roadster shows the bar mounted on two vertical slats which go in between the numberplate mount and front bumper. Probably fixed via the number plate mounting bolts. You may need to customise yours?

Here are dome pictures of the bar. It measures 1" in diameter. Will work on it this weekend but it appears I have to take the overriders off ten put the bar on and then put the overrider back on.
