MG MGB Technical - Fuel Tank Pickup

I recently purchased a new tank for my 77 MGB and upon receiving it noticed that while the tank has an opening for the sending unit, there is no fuel pickup. Is this common in new tanks? Is mounting a fuel pickup to which I can attach the existing line to the pump something commonly done?
J Fleshman

The tank you got is designed to use a sending unit/pick up tube that is integrated into a single unit. Cheers - Dave

Thank you Dave. I looked at the Moss Catalog but did not see such a thing. Any idea of a source?

Try any of the major parts suppliers - BHive in Clemson South Carolina - Atlanta Imported Auto Parts - you can also find them on EBay if you go that route. You might also try the tank supplier.

I have a used tank unit with a pick up pipe but it is in need of a new float. It was taken from a 1979 B GT.
I was unable to get a replacement float at the time so I purchased a new unit complete.

The Moss catalogue shows two different fuel gauge units, AHU1027 is the early type without a fuel pick up and ADU3218 is the later type with the pick up pipe running through the plate. You can still buy new old style tanks with the separate pick up and I suggest you return the tank you have to the supplier and ask him to replace it with the early type. You want tank NRP2, and you have got tank NRP1174.

This is a 77B so the tank he has will be correct i.e the one that needs the combined float unit and outlet. If he changes to the other tank he will have to change the fuel filler inlet and the large hose behind it because they are different.

Depends on the chassis number, the 77 model year started in June 76 but the tank didn't change until August at chassis number 415001 for roadsters or 412301 for GTs.
