MG MGB Technical - Gearbox Workshop Manual
Does anybody know if there is such a thing as a workshop manual for the gearbox (4 synchro)? Even a set of proper drawings would be a start! The Haynes manual is quite comprehensive but doesn't have dimensions, clearances, etc. Thanks, Neil |

Hi Neil Moss can supply a Leyland workshop manual Part No AKD 4957 which gives all the information and drawings you could require. Its quite a bit more expensive than the Haynes though. Regards Jim |

Jim, I cannot find that part number on the Moss website. Is it a gearbox-specific manual or the general workshop manual? Neil |

That's not a Moss part number as it's not a part, it's the Leyland publication number. The book is available from MGOC, Amazon etc., the latter knowing it as ISBN 1855201747. It's the MGB Workshop Manual i.e. for the whole car. There are various issues, later issues having info on later cars as well as early cars, so you have to be sure it is going to cover your year. It's more comprehensive than Haynes but like Haynes is primarily a dismantling and repair manual and as such won't include all the dimensions and clearances that the dimensional drawings would. |

Neil I downloaded a copy of the Workshop manual AKD 3259 British Leyland. It is in PDF form (26MB). If you send me an email, I'll send you a copy. Kent |

Neil The workshop manuals are listed in the Moss parts catalogue ( spring 2008)on page A64. I deal with the Bradford depot on an almost daily basis and the staff there can help if you give them a call. I am not in any way connected to Moss except as a customer. Hope this helps Jim |

Thanks everyone. I already have a paper copy of the workshop manual, and one of the BMH CDs too. Actually, I think Haynes is better for the gearbox. What I am after is a manual specific to the gearbox, or a set of engineering drawings. Regards all, Neil |

I've spoken to the original designer of the MGB transmission system and he says BLMC transferred all the drawings to BMIHT at Gaydon, they would seem to be your best bet. I know they are agreeable in principle to visitors who want to study archive material, and you may well be able to obtain copies. |

Thanks Paul, I'll try that. Neil |
