MG MGB Technical - Greasing up the front suspension

Have finally got round to greasing the front suspension of my 1972 UK MGB.

Grease has gone in ok on the passenger side, and 2 of the 3 nipples on the driver side (more or less), but only squeezes out around the sides of the middle grease nipple rather than going in.

I've unscrewed the nipple and given it a clean to free up the ball, but no success. Can/should I free up the old grease with a very targeted blast of brake cleaner (perhaps delivered through a straw) - I feel I don't quite have the skills to take apart the suspension!

Did you take the weight off the wheels when greasing i.e. axle stands under the spring pans?

I wouldn't put any solvent in the front suspension, you may have to dismantle to get it all out or risk rapid wear.

The middle nipple wasn't provided initially but that led to inadequate lubrication of the lower end of the king-pin. Can you get grease through the middle nipple when unscrewed? If that's OK try using a probe in the hole to clear any hardened grease.

yep, front was jacked up so weight was off the wheels.
I'll have a go at trying to get grease through the nipple when unscrewed and could try prodding it with some stout wire!

Nat-
If a grease zerk / nipple fitting is clogged with old, hardened grease such that it will not pass new grease through it, then carefully heat the grease zerk / nipple fitting with a propane torch. The heat will melt the hardened grease, thus allowing the new grease to flow in and expel the old grease. If that fails, then 1/4"-28 UNF grease zerk / nipple fittings are inexpensive to replace.

Fitting a new grease nipple, then loading up a grease gun with EP 80, usually gets things moving for me.

I never really left. Its just that this BBS has contracted down to just a few hard cases who refuse to give up. Not much going on here.
