MG MGB Technical - GTV8 - Rear wheel brake cylinder
The puddle under the rear left was unexpectedly top priority. The replacement cylinder (will change the back right at the same time) - haven't arrived but the spare in the cupboard does have a very similar bore -it could be left over from the 1800GT but the V8 is supposed to be the same size as the roadster. The unit is unmarked but the box says
MSC 10310. Anyone got the cylinder diameters ? Aren't we lucky to have such an interesting occupation while the rest of the lockdown world twiddle their thumbs. |

1800 GT 0.875" 1122 Roadster and V8 GT 0.80" 1103 But up to May 1968 both the roadster and the GT had the 0.80" cylinders. |

Concur with that. The two have the location pegs in different places, so are not a direct fit to the 'other' backplate. |

Allan Paul - many thanks - it's left over from the 1800 GT - Sod's law isn't it. I don't suppose it will fit the MGA rears. |

I think they are completely different, sliding incorporating the handbrake mechanism. |

To add insult to injury, Roger, the mod used to be to use Roadster cylinders in the 1798 GT and smaller Mini Cooper cylinders in the Roadster, as in extremis (competition) the back end could apparently lock up. Which I guess is why the V8 has Roadster cylinders. Not sure where that leaves your GT cylinder? ebay? |

Paul - think you are right . Peter - The spare cylinder will go to a good home - when I find one. Interesting reminder of what we did with our cars all those years ago. The Cosworth B series was frighteningly fast and the Downton version was also competitive - back in the days of 100 octane. Didn't we have fun ! |
