MG MGB Technical - Heater Box Removal
Read a number of documents about removing the heater box, and think every thing is off or removed but still the heater box will not come out. It moves around and liftsa 1/4 inch but something is stopping it coming out, any idears would be gratefully received. |

Double check that all the fastners are out, and that all hoses,( air ones) inside are out also. I found my box rusty underneath, and this acts like an adhesive. It should lever out. Don't forget the little radiator sticks down into the well underneath the main heater box. Mike |

Have you removed the 90 degree airtube plate behind the console. This attaches to two tubes that go into the bottom of the heater box. They should just fall out when that plate is removed. Getting it out is the easy bit. |

My heater got stuck on the cable for the airflow flap. You can either force it out with the cable as I did, or try to loosen the cable at the heater-side. The rubbery sponge on the bottom will stick as Mike writes. If you are sure everything is removed some force and a lot of wiggling is needed to free the heater. This is also said in: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/news/news169.html Don't forget the VERY important precaution not to have persons under 18 present when working on the MGB heater; their tender feelings WILL be hurt by the inevitable foul language used during the process. |
