MG MGB Technical - heater reassembly details
I'm just about to reassemble my heater having taken it apart to derust and paint. Unfortunately I did not note where the foam strips go around the heater matrix. Also I need to know what surface to mount the felt strips back onto the heater vent flap. Does anyone know where to get an exploded view of these details? I shall take photos of any assembly I take apart next time. |

Been there, done that! Did you flush the heater matrix thoroughly? I was amazed by the mud that came out and even more amazed by the heat it now produces. It is also advisable to lubricate the "bearing" of the heater motor, mine runs better and quieter now. I put foam strips along the matrix where it meets the case. Your aim is to prevent fresh air passing around the matrix instead of through it. The same goes for the felt on the flaps; if you look long and hard at how the flaps work you should be able to work it out. Or else look at: http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/heatunit.htm#4 And when you are trying to attach the cable that operates the flap, remember that our thoughts are with you (from the comfort of our comfortable chairs); good luck! ;-) |

Before you put it in the car make sure it doesn't have any rattles when the fan is running. Mine does but I didn't notice until it was all back together and in the car and it's VERY annoying! Simon |

My compliments to Mr. Deppler for the display and to you Mr. Veer for posting it. It is the nicest instructional sheet on the heater assembly I've ever seen. If you don't mind, I'll copy the link for future use. Didn't mean to hijack this post, just thought I'd compliment on it. PJ |

Steve, When I rebuilt my heater I used the excellent instructions from here: http://www.chicagolandmgclub.com/photos/b_heater/ This site shows where the foam seals should go. Prepare for some fractious moments when you put the heater box back in the car against the pressure of the wedge foam seal, it puts up a good fight! ~Mike |
