MG MGB Technical - heaterpipe shape, why?
I was wondering why on my MGB the heaterpipe, that runs over the rockercover, is shaped like it is. If you look at the picture (not my car, picked it from the internet) you can see it has a bend in the horizontal part towards the heater assembly, but why? Somehow I think it was caused by a massive drawingboard mistake because the bend would neatly clear the oilfillercap if it was bent the other way and then towards the waterpump. Does anybody know or am I the only one that is slightly baffled by this bend? ![]() |

This cropped up a while ago, Chris Betson won the prize for the correct reason, it is accomodate the kick-down cable on automatics. I did have a picture somewhere but can't find it at the moment. |

Thanks Paul, I haven't been very active on the BBS for a while so I might have missed it. |

Brilliant! Is that front aircleaner also specific for an Automatic? It doesn't have a "snout" |

It does, it comes off the bottom of the round canister, you can just see it going off the bottom of the picture. |

Robert, As said in my first post, it's not my car. I picked this picture from the internet because the red rockercover shows off the black heaterpipe beautifully. That said, to get an enginebay this shiny takes a LOT of hard work, praise for the owner of this obviously cherished MGB. |
