MG MGB Technical - Ignition switch bezel
I'm fed up with the ignition switch on my 68GT working loose in the dash. This is due to the fact that I've never been able to tighten it properly. Is there a 'cheats' way of tightening it? Or do I need to find the proper tool to do it? |

Hi Andy The chrome bezel on the front of the ignition switch will only tighten flush with the barrel, you have to adjust the brass nut behind the dash enough so that the bezel will tighten without bottoming out on the barrel. There should also be a wavy spring type washer behind the dash and in front of the brass adjusting nut. I brought tool of ebay specifically for tightening the chrome bezels on lucas switches. Hope this helps Pete |

Andy ....Or make your own tool like I did - I used some SS sheet about 1/16" thick and hacksawed and filed it to make a tool with two ears that fit the bezel slots. No more slipping srewdrivers and scratched dashes! here's a picture John ![]() |

Ah-ha, the brass adjusting nut.....didn't even realise there was one! Thanks guys, time for more fiddling around behind the dash in a frozen garage....why do we do it? |

Rich I will do a sketch for you John |

Rich - here is a sketch of the tool - measurements in mm I made two - I lost one then found it again later. Thickness is not critical as long as the "prongs" fit into the slots on the bezel Cheers John ![]() |
