MG MGB Technical - Indicator Flasher relay
The direction indicator arm does not always self cancel on my 71 roadster. As I am a bit hard of hearing it is often left on, is there a flasher relay that makes a louder noise so I can hear it easier. Trev |

Just wire a 12v DC buzzer across the flasher unit contacts as shown at http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/sounder.htm. If it has red and black leads wire as shown, using piggy-back connectors as shown makes it very easy. When you first turn on the indicators nothing will happen, it is only when the lights go off for the first flash that the buzzer will sound, i.e. the buzzer sounds when the lights are out and vice-versa. |

Thanks for that Paul, That looks simple enough. Have you any idea where these buzzers are available from. Trev |

Maplin e.g. http://info.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3213. I've used this type for a lights-on warning. |

Thanks for the tip. My on-board signal warning device (wife) has asked me if such a device was available. |

I've changed my flasher unit from the bi-metal type to an electronic unit, anyone know if wiring a buzzer across the contacts will cause any problems? |

I can't imagine it would, but haven't tried it. |

Thanks again Paul for the advice. I got one of the buzzers from Maplins, £2.04p I piggy backed it to the flasher unit with a small tie rap. It was a bit to loud for luggy me. Amazing how much noise comes from such a small item, so I blocked some of the holes with some blue tack, all very crude but it works fine now. Trev |
