MG MGB Technical - Inner wings/linings

Hi All,

I'm looking for pictures of inner wings/linings for front MGB or GT fenders. I know that Lokari Aluminium) and Moss (plastic) have MGB linings available, but I can not find any pictures after installation.

Anyone?

Cheers,

André

André,

You can go to "MGOC spares" and you will find the wanted picture. I send you the exact link.
I hope it's OK for you.
Best regards.

i recommend these liners...bought mine from Victoria British over 5 years ago..they were made in England as I remember. Fit was perfect although they come with washers that protruded out beyond the wheel well so I put them in a vice and cut the edge of the washers flat..took about 5 minutes. If MGB's originally came with these we would have many more still on the road instead of being scrapped due to rust.

Renou,

Thanks for the link.

Does the linings cover the complete wheel well?

My problem is that the splash plates leak a lot of water/mud.This mixtutes gets trapped between the outer wing and the main body and is the reason for corrosion on the lower part of the wing.

A picture of the lining fitted would be appreciated

Thanks,

André

André,

If you ever want more infos, you may ask to Roger Parker from MGOC'staff. He reported to have them installed on one of his cars he recently rebuilt. At withdrawal stage, he noticed no mud behind the splash panels and a really neat and clear internal wing shroud
as mentionned by jjralton from San Diego CA. From my own, this equipement fullfills the whole wheel arch.
if you may wait for until tomorrow morning, I can find back and scan his article. For this, I will need your Email if you are interested in. Myself I plan to fit them on my car.
Best regards.

Andre',
Yes the lining covers that I bought cover the complete wheel well. They are molded to go over the mgb front suspension and shocks and completely surround the tires and will stop all water from getting to the body.
Mine have either ‘kg? or rg?’ showing in the molding. Page 14 in VB catalog

You are right, the splash plates leak water and mud. Also on the B, a shelf was perfectly designed behind the front wheel up near the top of the wing. This shelf was designed to catch water and mud and hold it there until rust occurs. Once it caught enough mud it will rust through dumping it all down on top of the sills as well….very similar to human tonsils trapping bacteria until we get sick…

Having had the splash plates off both mine in the past and not having arch liners the tops of my sills were as clean as a whistle. If the seals are defective, and there is a small sub-plate and seal at the top of the wing as well as the main seal down the side, then yes you will get muck and water behind them that arch liners will keep out. Certainly something to be considered after a comprehensive body restoration, but maybe not as far as adding them to a car with existing paint damage and dirt. The liners won't stop all dampness getting behind them, but they will extend its drying time.

here is a bad picture I snapped of my car. what looks like an attachment screw there in the liner behind the wheel....isnt a screw. Its just dirt.

Dear Renou,

I'm looking forward to you mail...

jjralston,

Thanks for the pictures

Dear Paul,
I appreciate it that you respect the original design of the MGB very much, but sometimes we have to admit that there are weaknesses in the design.

I restored my GT 20 years ago regardles of cost. The last 10 years I usd the car only for historic rallying on a highly competitive level. I this type of event some stages on on lose/mud/snow surface. Because I tahe care for my care, every year I completely clean the complete underside and also check the area behing the splash plates. Although my seals are in perfect conditions, it is always a mess...
This is my ewperience in 20years of ownership...
