MG MGB Technical - Internal dam in MC Reservoir?

The M/C on my '74B has a dam in the middle preventing me from draining the fluid from the front wheel. Is the rear section of this reservoir for the rear wheels? (see photo)
Dan Hiltz

No, the other way round. The rear section feeds the front brakes (two separate ports) and the front section feeds the rear brakes (single port). It's to prevent a leak in one pipe or hose disabling all the brakes. Mind you, with the front wheel circuit gone, there is precious little retardation available from just the rear.
PaulH Solihull

Paul, Mine must be crosswired, because I bled the left front wheel and the front reservoir is empty while the back is still full.

Dan Hiltz

The larger volume side of the reservoir is always the front brakes, since they have the greatest fluid displacement over time, as the pads wear.
And please flush the entire system thoroughly; that crap in the reservoir is horrifying! But I fear for your seals.

I'm planning to rebuild the M/C, so I promise a thorough cleaning.

While we are on the subject, this has confused me; Later models of MGB had a servo all -in-one as it were with the pedal box assembly. I cannot fathom the mechanics, is the pedal box different? In some conversions, they will even put the servo from a GM vehicle, How has this been done? Mike

Dan- You are in for the PITA of your life - that MC is one nasty thing to get apart and together without damaging unobtainable pieces!

Mike - Indeed, the parts and mechanics are completely reversed. Early cars have the pushrod above the pedal pivot, so the pushrod goes back when you push down. Later RB/integral servo cars have the pivot above the pushrod, so the pushrod goes forward when you push down.
