MG MGB Technical - inverted oil filter mod
does anyone have a part number for the tube used to help with overnight oil filter draining on a 18GG engine i know i can fit a canister with a drain valve but i want to keep it original, or does anyone know wherei can get one many thanks. A.T |

Eh? Doesn't one normally change the filter when the oil needs changing? And if the oil needs to be drained at some other time either remove the filter and drain it, or just leave it. |

paul i take it from your post that you have no idea what so ever what i am talking about, perhaps no i am sorry i cant help you with a part number for this would have been a better reply, |

I was asking a question trying to understand what you meant. If everyone replied saying 'No I don't know of a part number' that would be even *less* useful to you, I suggest. |

It would be as useful as your response as that had no relevance to my question either. For people who understand what i am asking, if you can help please reply below. For people who just want to try and be clever, start your own post. |

Andy. No need to be snippy. I, too, have no idea what you are posting about and would like more information. I am assuming that we are concerning ourselves with the inverted cannister type oil filter assembly. I was not aware of any form of system for draining the oil filter other than simply unbolting it from the system. In which case, the oil inside tends to drop down on the floor, similar to when the later 18V oil filters are removed. (I use a cat litter pan under the filter area to capture the oil.) I have been owning and driving MGs for a number of years and have a fairly large reference library about them. None of them mention any form of item/tool for draining the oil filter in the manner you suggest. Paul has, also, been doing this type of thing for a very long time. Thus, we have some interest in trying to understand what you are posting about, even if we do not phrase the questions as well as we might. I do not have a clue/clew as to what you are posting about, how it might hook up to the oil filter system, nor how it might be used. Thus, a little more information would be appreciated and might make it possible for someone to answer your question. I suspect, based on not being able to find any information on this system in any of my books, that it was some form of after market system which either did not work out well (hence, taken off the market), or was taken off the market after the 18V system with its different design of oil filtering system rendered it a no longer needed item. I am not sure that your posting a more complete description will allow us to help you. But, if you have the time, it would satisfy our curiosity and might cause someone to remember that strange tool sitting around their spare parts locker and know what it was used for. Who knows, they might even be willing to sell it. Les |

Andy, Are you asking about the anti-drain back tube fitted to the original style of oil filter element housing that 'retains' some oil within the oil filter when the engine is switched off - shortening the oil pressure establishment time on next startup? If so I'm sorry I don't have the part number but somebody will I'm sure be able to offer it. I'm quite sure Paul was only being his usual helpful self and trying to ascertain the exact detail of your query. Happy New Year to everyone. Regards Roger |

hi Andy I did not know that it exist an anti-drain tube that you can by. I used a aspirin medical aluminium tube that had the right diameter. I used Locktight for mounting it. But it did not work specially well, it was still drained. I have change it to a canister type, but I paint the canister red. Note that the tube was still in place (Locktight mounting) when I changed the filter head to use the canister filter. Tjellvar |
