MG MGB Technical - Large sunroof leaking

I have a 72 BGT with a wide Skylark glass sunroof, it now leaks and I have been trying to find a replacement, the problem is the hole in the roof is 33" wide and most of the possible replacements are narrower - this means either welding in plates !!! or a new roof. Does anyone now of a suitable replacement ? or any ideas ! other than an umbrella on the roof !!!
Thanks
Chris

Chris, you might try one of the US suppliers such as JC Whitney or other mail order company. Sun roofs tended to be a bit larger for American cars I believe. You might find something that would fit.

Just checked, JC Whitney shows a 35" wide item.http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2001991/p-2001991/N-111+10201+600001936/c-10101
Larger than you need, but indeed there are larger sizes available over here.

Would it be possible to replace it with the Webasto/Britax style sunroof?...asuming that you can find one.

Is it just a seal that you could change?

Could these people help?

Thanks for the information, the surrent Webasto/Britax requires a hole 32" wide which is a shame as i had braced myself for the £1300 to have one put in!!! The main seal seem ok it is the grommets where the fixings pass through the glass and seal that part and also one of the clips snapped.

Chris,I have just measured a spare Webasto roof in my garage. The overall width is just over 33" but the frame is just over 1.25" on each side.Cut a 33"hole and the frame could not be secured. It would be possible in your case to weld a strip down both sides of your current hole and have the welds hidden by the frame.Regards Peter
