MG MGB Technical - Lashing eye

Hi guys, anyone got a picture of a rear lashing eye for a chrome bumper car please?

Thanks

Colin

I can probably photograph one tomorrow (later today) if I can locate one.

Mine aren't fitted at the moment, as I currently have a towbar fitted.

These are my two. I managed to remember which box they were in.

Thanks Dave are they definitely chrome bumper? I have some of those.

Which bolt do they mount on?

Thanks

Colin

Definitely.

They fit onto the bumper iron and the lip sits on top of the spring bar.

Thanks Dave I will have a look in the morning.

I can't find a reference to them in any parts books. I think I read somewhere that they were fitted to export models and (supposed to be) removed at PDI, but I might be making that up!

I've had a look for images on the web and finally found this one, where they are just visible. (Pic courtesy of historicmotorsports.net)

I don't know only thinking, perhaps BMC/BL were being unusually considered about exporting and these were part of the 'packaging' used.

Brilliant pic Dave.

I was wondering where they went!

I found an old photo of my car with the 'eyes' just about visible.

Oh no, not the tie down brackets----------lol
A few years back there was a BIG discussion about these at a concours here-
The resulting answer(S) were
Some here swear that the plates went on the bumper bracket then the irons and bumper went on, but they got voted down as some brackets got bent fom overtightening the straps and the bend direction indicates that the bumper went on first then the tie down brackets then washer and nut
There is a theory also that later cars around 74 on had analready bent bracket ,the layout of which reinforces the theory that the bumper is already on the car when the tie down brackets are fitted then the washer and nut
Here is a pic of what is believed to be the incorrect way to fit them, the bumper should go on first then this tiedown bracket around the other way then the washer and nut

William Revit

A good straight bracket and a bent one showing the direction the bracket would have to have been fitted to bend it backwards to where it would have been tied down

William Revit

The later pre-bent brackets showing that they went on 'after' the bumper, lacated on top of the bumper irons and leaned out rearwards at an angle

William Revit

Guys, thanks for your help. Found some pre bent ones in my (big) box of bits.

Will be in the next batch of powder coating.
