MG MGB Technical - Leaking windscreen

Discovered the other day that the windscreen on my relatively newly aquired MGBGT is leaking at,I think, the right hand corner. Is it acceptable to try to seal it with adhesive or should the screen rubber be replaced?

First, you really need to find out where it is leaking from, is it the rubber to body seal, or rubber to glass.If the rubber isn't brittle, it is a reasonably simple job to run some windscreen sealant under the lip, don't make too big a hole in the sealant nozzle or it will go everywhere, I personally prefer sealant as it remains flexible.

I've used Comma Seek'n Seal which is clear, runs very freely and will creep into very small gaps by capillary action, then 'dries' but never more than 'tacky'. 'Similar products are available'.

Like Capn Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure! (From Frosts)!! But as others have said the key is finding where it's getting in, not where its coming out

Two things;
New windscreen glass is thinner than original, which may lead to a less effective rubber to glass seal. Captian Tolley's is quite effective here.
New rubber seals are quite a lot less supple and flexible than the original equipment and also less accurately produced. (More poor rubber product!!), hence the rubber to body and rubber to glass seal is much less effective.
Presumably the only answers are to use a sealer of sorts to make up for this poor or dimensionally different product, OR re-use the original screen seal, at least, which is a much better item than those "new" products, unless damaged beyond re-use.

Paul, I recently tried to find, AND FAILED, the Comma product when my tin emptied after about 40 years!

Thanks for the advice. I have bought some silicon sealer from Halfords and will see if it works.

Probably an antique centre Paul!!
Arbomast would be better than silicone. It,s the stuff windscreen fitters use.

Should suit our cars then :o)
