MG MGB Technical - LH Overdrive suction tube
I've stripped my overdrive today and was pleasantly surprised at its condition, despite finding some filings in the bottom. However, I'm unable to 'find' a part known as the "suction tube". From the Moss catalogue and Haynes it should be located on or near the pump plunger. Can anyone tell me exactly where it sits? Could it be that the filings I have found are the tube? What's the effect of it being missing? |

Richard, I dit mine last year. The filings are normal whear and are not the suction tube. The tube is sitting close and parallel to the plunger and should be a vital part in lubrication. It comes about into the middle of the sump with a transverse cut at the end. You can remove it with a screwdriver. I will try to opload a picture. Pierre ![]() |

Thanks Pierre. Your photos helped a lot. Obvious really but I had not realised the function of this tube, and mine is still in place. |

Thanks Paul, although the position of the beast is still unclear from the diagram. The 'line' seems to be putting it in the same hole as the plunger. All is clear now, I just couldn't see it for looking. |

Richard, Pleasure is mine. Paul, Fantastic site. Looked there many times also, for restoring my 'C' as many items and principles are the same. Thanks a lot. pierre |

To me the dog-leg in the line takes it to the lower right of the oil pump hole, but admittedly out of sight in that view. |
