MG MGB Technical - Location for engine grounding
A very simple question, but where exactly is the engine grounded. I have seen a few suggestions in trouble shooting to check that the engine grounding is sound, clean etc, but I can never seem to locate it on my 74, I am sure that it is right in front of me! |

GG, I think I remember a bare braided strap between the chassis and engine at the engine mount, but I remember that from older models than yours. Charley |

Indeed, Your car should have a braided strap on the driver's side motor mount running to the chassis. As a precaution, I added a second strap to the passenger's side mount. The rubber bumper cars had the ground strap at the rear of the transmission. RAY |

The one thing you must remember is you can't have too good a ground ,SOooo when in doubt add another one RIC |

GGG At the gearbox mounting. A neat solution for the first 15 years but guaranteed to fail in the longer term. Fit one in the engine bay where you can keep an eye on it. |

Chrome bumper are usually around the left-hand (facing forwards) square mount and rubber bumper cars are usually around the gearbox mounts on the cross-member. Always use uninsulated braided straps which copes better with engine flexing than the insulated battery cables. Should last a lot longer than 15 years, wherever they are fitted! |
