MG MGB Technical - MGA Rack in an MGB??
Anyone put an MGA rack in an MGB? Why? Higher ratio, and I have a spare. Colin |

They are not easily interchangeable. |

Bill, Do you know if the internals are interchangeable if you dismantled the steering racks? I have the LHD steering rack from an early 1500 MGA, but rather than fit the whole assembly I wonder is whether the parts would fit the MGB rack. Rack pinion or both will have different teeth for the different ratio but rather than make the whole thing fit would it be easier to build a higher ratio MGB steering rack using the rack and/or pinion out of the MGA one. This is just a thought, and WAY down on my things to do list. John. |

Wont fit.....I know they may look the same...but they are definitively different.... You can drive yourself crazy trying to do it...Ask me how I know. Ha ha ha! |

If you have an original RHD rack, it's worth a bit, even though the new repros have hammered the prices compared to a few years ago when asking prices were 1000 US! A used MGB one is quite cheap, and so are the correct reproductions. |

Dominic, yes I have an original A RHD rack. I wanted to increase the ratio on my B race car, and I dont think high ratio racks are available any more. Colin |

The mountings are completely different, so you would have to make up an adaptor, and I suspect that there's very little space to fit that in. |
