MG MGB Technical - MGB 3 Bearing Crankshaft

Hi,

The number 1 bigend on my crank is worn past being able to use +60 bearings, so I need to find a good secondhand one. I have searched the internet and called a few UK spares places but so far no luck. Does anyone know where I might find a crank?

The number 1 conrod is also damaged, so needs replacing as well. It's probably better to do this as a set, so I also need to find a set of these as well.

Any thoughts or direction would be a great help. I am currently based in the UK.

Cheers, David

Thank you for that Dave.

If anyone else has any ideas or leads, please let me know.

Crankshaft people weld them up all the time - it was how we made stroker cranks. Usually costs too much for a stock build, but when you are thinking about getting one in the post from the other side, worth considering. And there is the stroker option (same price)...

Hi Fletcher,

You are quite correct, we do that in Australia as well, however, it seems here in the UK it is not a common practice for some reason. Although, that said, I have today found someone who does it but it is fairly pricy.

I have also just found a good secondhand crank from MG Motorsport in Hertfordshire, quite close to home, so hopefully now, all is good.

Thank you Dave and Fletcher for your help.

If you happen to be in BC, I have a half dozen, but unfortunately shipping is a pain.

Thanks Bill,

I would love to be in BC and hope to get there in the next couple of years, however, I am an Aussie currently living in the UK. Not all bad though, at least I'm going to the big MGB 50th day at Blenheim Palace in a couple of weeks. My GT V8 has even been chosen for the MGB timeline display, so a very proud Aussie at the moment. I would love to check out some of the MG events and catch up with some local enthusiasts when I do get to BC.

Cheers, David
