MG MGB Technical - MGB Dashpot oil leak
I have a 1974 mgb with SU-H1F4 AUD550 carbs, the rear carb dashpot will not keep oil, it is leaking out bottom onto jet needle, is there a sealer and repair procedure to seal bottom of dashpot oil well ?? Thank You Jonathan J Kasing Kasing Auto Sales Inc. 1000 Lawrence Avenue Ellwood City Pa. 16117 724 752-4000 724 752-8000 fax kasing@zoominternet.net |

Are you saying that with the piston out on the bench, when you put oil in it leaks out of the bottom? |

Hi Allan, when on bench oil will seep out of hole were needle was removed from. |

That's a rare one, will have a look at an HIF tomorrow and let you know what I find. |

Should not do that, it was overdrilled from one end or the other. Clean off all oil and put a bit of epoxy in the bottom of the damper tube or the recess for the needle, not getting any on the sides. FRM |

Hi Allan & FRM: After complete clean of piston dashpot I noticed small hole in center. I use JB weld to seal hole. I used a plastic drink straw to draw sealer in straw and inserted down hole on plunger side. Applied a little breath into straw and slowly pulled straw back out. Process worked just fine. Thanks for all your help. Jonathan |
