MG MGB Technical - MGB Front Crossmember Bushes
Hi, in the midst of a front suspension rebuild and ready for the crossmember to go back on. New Autobush poly bushes on the crossmember studs apparently require silicone grease; Autobush claim this is supplied but mine had no grease at all. Any suggestions on an appropriate alternative grease? |

Can't see what the grease does other than make it easier to fit. Unless you are fitting castor wedges in aluminium, when silicon sealer is recommended to minimise electrolytic action. Judging by the crud that gets down at the cross memebr I'd have though anything would do! |

Poly bushes use a non-petroleum type of grease. Petroleum based lubes are not recommended. To the best of my recollection, the pads between the body and cross member don't require grease at all. It's only used on moving components. Thus, none should have been sent with the pads. Check again with your supplier regarding whether it's needed at all for the pads. |

Poly bushings use a white silicone grease where needed. My cross member pads did not come with grease, nor do they seem to have needed it after several years of use. White silicone grease is commonly available at the better auto parts stores and can be found in tube form containers. Very useful any time you need to assemble rubber parts. Les |

Thanks all, based on the lack of moving parts I'll just assemble negative grease, makes the most sense! |

One polite email to Autobush = 2 free tubes of grease. Winner! |
