MG MGB Technical - MGB GT Rebuild.
I'm about to start a rebuild on my MGB GT. Fairly straight forward i.e. Front Wings, Rear Wings and complete Sills. What I worried about is the panel between the Front screen and the Bonnet has started to rust. Can you get repair panels for this? ![]() |

Possibly, but unless it has corroded through over a wide area cutting-out and patch-welding is probably easier, they normally go at the bottom corners of the screen and along the wing seam. |

Patch welding may be easier but scuttle panels are available for both the B and GT. |

they do do a panel but its a complete panel all the way up the sides of the screen and it has as centre metal section on it to make sure you dont weld it on in the wrong place and the screen wont fit after so be very careful it is very expensive at around £200 5 years ago so you have to be sure as no repair sections are avail ste |

Are you saying the GT needs replacement front fenders and rear quarter panels and rocker panels on both sides? And the cowl is a weak area. I restore MG's and if you brought it to me I would tell you to find another body. My point is the cost of replacing all these parts is not smart thinking when a better body can be found with a little work. |

Hi Jim, I'm no expert on this, but compared to the UK, we still have fairly easy access to decent body shells on our side of the pond. They rust so much more severely on the other side, and in places we don't see over here. And cars that haven't are almost impossible to find. From the picture, Gaz's car certainly looks worth saving. Did you check it out? I'm in close touch with the Magnette community and I know that they restore Magnettes over there that we wouldn't even buy for parts over here. But Gaz, you could do worse than try to get Jim to do a car for you. His restorations are stunning! FWIW, Allen |

Thanks Allen for the vote of confidence. I did not realize that there are so few cars over there. I'm restoring a CGT right now and the car is rotted more than the owner thought. Unfortunatly it adds up to more money. I hate to see this happen. Folks buy a cheap car and they think they can fix it but it becomes a money trap. Buy the best car you can afford! |
