MG MGB Technical - MGB High Interior temperature
Gents, Has anyone of you every tried the thermal refelecting insulation materials that is found in many cars nowadays. Wrapping the exhaust itself will keep the floor boards from becoming hot. I have, however, understood that Peter Burgess used wrapping on an exhaust manifold and was not very pleased the wrapping of the cylinder head itself. So instead of wrapping the exhaust I am considering the reflecting type of insulation. Preferably the self adhesive type. Can anyone reflect? Much appreciate. Frank Navest |

I used a steel plate that was a vast improvement, it was held in place with 2 exhaust clamps. |

QUOTE: I have, however, understood that Peter Burgess used wrapping on an exhaust manifold and was not very pleased the *wrapping* of the cylinder head itself. I think this word should be *warping* - deformation produced by thermal stresses. |

Geoff, You are absolutely right with respect to my spelling: I indeed meant to write warping. Re-reading my thread I thin k I should explain that intend to glue insulation to the outside of the body, above the exhaust undereath the car, above the transmission to try and keep the heat from reaching the body. Has anyone actually tried this way? Frank |

Hi Frank, This article might help you. http://www.mgexperience.net/article/all/Low%20cost%20cockpit%20sound%20and%20thermal%20insulation.pdf Herb |

Although it's under the hood, it will keep the interior cooler also. Go to www.Jet-Hot.com. It is used on jet engines, tanks, trucks, John Force Racing an so on. I am sending my exhaust manifold from my 65-B and also my Limo (My Business, Not personal)due to idling time. Just a thought. Steve C. |
