MG MGB Technical - MGB V8 calipers

I believe the V8 brake calipers are a combination of 2 other calipers, maybe Triumph TR6.

Anyone know the details?

Thanks

I thought I'd heard they were part Triumph 2000.

There were two different versions of TR6 calipers, I believe.

I'd heard Triumph 2000 too. Of course, you could possibly use V8 discs with the standard calipers if you had a source of part worn V8 brake pads!
Peter Allen

I'm dredging my memory bank here, but something seems to tell me that the factory V8 calipers were one half Triumph 2000 and the other half Austin Princess (the wedge car). I'm pretty sure they were a composite made up of two different halves.

Mike

That would produce a 3-pot caliper.

Wherever they came from, FWIW the V8 pads are handed in that there is an inner and outer, mirror-images of each other. They almost but not quite fit in the wrong side.

"That would produce a 3-pot caliper."

Ha! I do believe you are right. However, my not-very-reliable memory still thinks it is made up of two different halves.
Mike Howlett

Mike I think you are correct, I was just trying to confirm what it was before I tried to make some!

Dave it would produce a 3 pot caliper, but the 2 halves would not fit together! Jaguar had 3 pots on something back in the day.

"How To Give Your MGB V8 Power" by Roger Williams, says inner half of Triumph 2000/2500 and outer half of MGB calipers will produce a V8 caliper.

Cheers Dave that is the info I was looking for.

Just need to find a pair of Triumph calipers now!
