MG MGB Technical - new MGB owner

Firstly, sorry this is such a basic question. Just got my 1973 MGB GT home and the front headlamp isn't working. Going to get a replacement bulb but I just don't know how to get at it to change it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To change the bulb, you must first remove the chrome ring. This is held with a lug at the top and by a spring clip at the bottom of the lamp unit. Prise it carefully next to the spring clip with a broad blade screwdriver - mind the paintwork. Once it is free of the clip you can lift it up off the top lug. Then you will see there are three screws that clamp the lamp assembly together and two screws that affect the lamp alignment, one for vertical and one for horizontal. The two adjustment screws are in slotted holes and if you twist the whole lamp unit anti-clockwise it should come free. You don't need to touch the three clamping screws. You can then get the bulb out the rear of the unit.

Congrats on your new MGBGT - you will enjoy the car and this group of enthusiasts. Welcome to the group.

Let's see an image of your new toy.

Congratulations.

By the way, one of the best things I did when I got my 1973 MGB was to join this site. It has saved me many times and I have gotten to know a lot of nice people - and have learned so much.

Hi Jen, as S Truman said it could be a sealed beam tungston unit, they are like driving with candles.
If that's the case you may like to change to Halogen bulbs. Both sides will cost about £30 to £40.

If you have already got bulbs they will be H4s, if you buy them at Halfords they will fit them for about a fiver.
