MG MGB Technical - New seals, no brakes!
Fitted new calliper seals. Replaced callipers. Bled brakes. No front brakes at all! Pumpy-pumpy-pumpy-pump, some brakes. Bled again. Looking at the front brakes, there is a 15 thou' gap between piston and pad. The new seals are pulling the pistons back well clear of the pads, and the pedal travel is all used up moving them back out again. My solution: remove pads, press pedal to push piston out too far, then force pads into place. Result, solid pedal. Don't know if the brakes work though, will post if they do!

I've never had a problem like that. Did you lubricate the seals and pistons with brake fluid during assembly? Dave

Ignore the last question...I've just read your other thread! Dave

Everytime I replace the caliper seals I "massage" the pistons in & out of the caliper (but not all of the way out!) by pressing on the brake pedal and then pushing the pistons back in several times This reassures me that the new rubber seals are seated and are sitting square in their grooves.

Hi Dave, I'm back. They work, but seem to pull a bit to the left. Not surprising as the left wheel was stiffer to turn than the right. (the left brake is likely coming on first whilst the right pistons are taking up clearance.) Hopefully they will settle down now they are full of fluid and I'm using them. I've had this on motorbikes before. Normally you just wire tie the lever back to the bar over night and the seals get the right idea.

Thanks for the suggestion Daniel, I might give that a try tomorrow. I'm hoping that things will settle down overnight.
