MG MGB Technical - New SS Exhaust System from Moss

My '66 B is in need of a new exhaust system. I see that Moss has a new all stainless steel exhaust system (not exactly sure how new it is). It's only $50 more then the Peco system without the headers. I'm looking for an exhaust system that looks and sounds good. My feeling, after reading numerous posts that the Peco system is a good and very good sounding system. I haven't heard any reviews on the new Moss system, I'm guessing because it's so new.

So, my question is... Does anyone have one of these new Moss systems? How do you like/not like it? Does it sound as nice as it looks? Any recommendations?

Fitted one about 12 years ago on an 1800 roadster - still sounds good (and doesn't leak). Go for it - just remember to change the hangers every three or four years.

The Falcon Big Bore system, sold by Moss and others, is an excellent exhaust setup. I installed one on my '67 16 years ago and it looks and sounds like brand new. RAY

The exhaust system I was referring to is the "Tourist Trophy" exhaust shown in the current catalog which looks very nice. I don't see anything called the Falcon Big Bore system. Is this discontinued? -Bernie

The Falcon Big Bore system is still in production. It deletes the front silencer and uses a larger rear silencer. The tailpipe is polished stainless steel. The tubing is 1 7/8" diameter. Check around and you will find that the price varies. If you can wait for a sale it is truely a great value. RAY

Hello,

I had an ANSA yn the past. A good quality set-up

I agree with Jean, the ANSA is a good setup. I ran one on my 70 B years ago. I now have a Peco on my 80 and don't think it sounds quite as good as the ANSA. OK, my hearing's not what it was 20 years ago, but that's my opinion.

My 66B already has an ANSA system on it, but I don't know how old it is. It was on the car when I bought it seven years. It's always been loud and not with a good sound. I'm assuming that it's old and the silencers are toasted inside.

The sound is a subjective opinion. It would be nice if you could hear both the Peco and the Ansa installed on the same car and get a true comparison. My Ansa system sounded very nice at low rpms, not loud, but a pleasant "burble". At highway speeds, it was more quiet and easy to cruise along with the top down. The Peco system sounds a bit more "Civic" like, not the burble, but a higher pitched note. Consider for a moment that over the years, the market demand for custom exhaust manufacturers has changed from cars like MGBs and TRs to Hondas. Thus, the ANSA sound might have changed over the years also.

My prefered one is a Stebro, which was a competitor of the Famous ABARTH in the 60's-70's.
Now Stebro is in SS but price follow th improvement.

That is truly a nice looking muffler (Stebro) but do you have personal experience with the unit. For that price it would not only need to last the life of the car but I would want to know that it had a wonderful sound. Unfortunately you can't test these out and $500 USD is a lot of money if it is not any better than a Falcon, Tourist Trophy or Borla SS unit.

Hello,

For my B-GT, I had a stebro mild steel in the past. It was more pleasant as they provide full system instead of muffler only like today. Now I have their complete SS system on my TR6 and it is the best I bought. I tried Monza ( no way anymore) and ANSA ( excellent).
