MG MGB Technical - no signals, tach, fuel
My friend bought an aftermarket cooling fan that hooks on the radio with the adjustable thermostat. He put it on over the weekend, then all of a sudden he has no tach, fuel guage, or turn signals. He said all 4 fuses in the fuse box are good. What is the common link that would cause all to fail? I asked him to check the inline fuse under the hood as well, he said it was good. His car is a 78. |

While the fuses may all look good he has blown the third fuse down. He doesn't have wipers either but he probably hasn't noticed that yet. |

Thanks, I will tell him to check number three and for wipers. |

And his temperature gauge now I think about it. |

Wiring diagrams are available at http://www.advanceautowire.com click on stock schematics. What circuit did he connect the fan to? Tell him to use a test light or meter and check for power at the terminals of the wires that connect to the third fuse. The third fuse supplies power to the wipers, heater fan, tach, temp gauge, fuel gauge, turn signals, reverses lights, and brake lights. |

The fuse may be good, but the consideable additional load of the fan may have blown a weak connection between fuse and holders, holders and spades, spades and wire conenctors etc. It's not a good idea to power the fan from the green circuit, use an in-line fuse from the white, or even better from the brown via a relay which itself is powered from the green circuit. |
