MG MGB Technical - Number plate screws
Hi Down in Kent England that is, the police are getting people to use screws to fix there number plates on as there have been a lot of thefts of plates for use on stollen vehicles. That is your daily drive as well as the classic. Graham |

Special screws I take it you mean, the ones with a face on the slot on the tightening side only. Ordinary screws can be undone easily enough. |

Yes Paul they are screws the police provided at a show. They can't be undone with a screw driver. Good Idea Graham |

One of several versions, including Torx and Allen key heads, available in the usual places. I've also seen some in colours, I hope they are not plastic like the standard yellow and white ones! |

You're supposed to rivet them on in France. That stops them being stolen. So scum just photo and clone them... |

Or just use some MGB oem screws. They will rust in place so quickly that no one will be able to remove them. |
Steven Rechter |
"So scum just photo and clone them..." Exactly. Only licenced people can make plates here - allegedly, and only on production of the registration document. But you can get 'show' plates made up anywhere, and I doubt close visual inspection will spot the difference let alone cameras. And because a camera never lies there is almost no evidence you can bring that will put you in the clear. When transporting a SORNed or otherwise untaxed and/or insured car on a trailer you even have to be careful to remove or cover up the plates as ANPR cameras only record the details, they don't take a photo. |
