MG MGB Technical - Oil Pressure Pipe Adaptor
The thread where the oil pressure pipe adaptor goes into the block (18V) is a special thread. I want to get a bespoke adaptor made so that I can plum in a tee-piece for a warning light. Does anybody have full details of the thread form please? I post a drawing of the adaptor when it's done. Thanks, Neil |

Neil, there is a brass fitting available that was used on US-marked MGB's from 1974 1/2 on and had a pressure switch for a anti run on valve screwed in. It is a simple exchange for the two way brass fitting on the bulkhead and you can use the presure warning switch from a BMC Mini. I fitted this items to my radster some years ago and it saved my engine when the hose faild. The OEM No. was BHH 649 in stted og the two way connector now fitted that is AAA 628. Hope this helps Ralph |

Ralph, Thanks - I have already tried to locate the part you mean, but it is 'no longer available' from Moss USA and I haven't found it anywhere else. Any ideas??? Neil |

Oil pipe tees should be available from many car bits places, I added one to my Celica when I wanted to tap in a second gauge to double-check low readings on the dash gauge, and got one in the local high street, just like this https://www.europaspares.com/INSTRUMENTS/SENDER_ADAPTORS__ETC/OIL_PRESSURE_GAUGE_FITTING_TEE_PIECES_1980.html (I tried to Tiny it but it didn't work) In my case I also got a male to male adapter as the input to the second gauge was female as were both outputs from the tee. For a pressure switch you won't need that as the switch is male. I think they are tapered thread, it would be advisable to take the switch and pipe fittings with you to make sure the size is OK. The Celica as almost certainly metric and the MGB almost certainly Imperial, so that may reduce the availablity. But classic Mini places should be able to help. |

Paul, The problem is that the thread in the block is a special - hence the request for the thread info, and the thread on the adaptor (either end of the hose) is a hose type thread (BSP conical). Neil |

I've just got an on-line quote from a US website for a USED connector - $65!!! |

Neil, i would take the two way brass fitting to a hydraulics shop. These items are NOT specially made for MG's and are common on may industrial machine constructions. Some years ago i found a site whre all these fittings were listed (only two types of these were used for the MGB). May be you should have a look into the archives whether there are information available. If i can find the site, i will post it here Ralph |

Neil, here are some further information for BHH 649: http://www.mgdc.de/cms_de/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=80 just scroll down to the picture in one of the threads. an other option is item no. 083.562 from Anglo Parts of Belgium. You can visit their site here: http://angloparts.com or contect tem by e-mail Info@angloparts.com Good luck Ralph |

Ralph, Thanks for the suggestions, but Anglo parts list it as 'NA' with no price - so presumably 'not available'. Neil |

Neil. As near as I can measure, the parts are the 1/8" British pipe thread--the diameter of the threaded area measures .380" and there seem to be 28 threads per inch which is within the tolerances for the 1/8" size. I have found such fittings available at NAPA stores here in the US. My website, www.custompistols.com/ has a much better e-mail program than the "Nigerian Spam Trap" listed here. I have a spare late model connector which has the pressure switch on it. Do not know if it works or not, but you can have it for the cost of postage. Les |
