MG MGB Technical - oil slinger problem
Just replaced my single timing chain with double row with new sprockets When I reinstall the oil slinger it seems VERY close to the chain I have checked it is the correct way round Do I risk it, or can I get away with leaving it off? Cheeers |

According to the parts book, there are two different oil throwers. I'm assuming that they are different for simplex and duplex, as they are with the A-series engine. |

I checked and it appears there is only one since very early cars when some early A series covers were used with felt pads? |

Close to the chain is correct! |

The Leyland Workshop Manual shows both types, the duplex chain one being cup-shaped and facing away, the single chain having a wider flat rim, stamped with an 'F' for 'Front' i.e. facing away from the engine, and the central dish facing the engine. |

There is not a different one for simplex / duplex chains/sprockets - the same flat "F" marked one should be used with timing covers with the rubber seal fitted from inside. The dished one that curves forward is used with the felt seal timing covers and the early rubber seal ones with the seal fitted from the outside. These engines would originally have only duplex chains/sprockets but the simplex ones also fit. |
