MG MGB Technical - perforated diferential cover
I've been cleaning up the rear axle in readiness for changing to Minilites. After derusting I notice a small perforation in the top half to the diff cover. Any suggestions as to how I might repair this short of welding? The hole is about 2mm by 3mm. There are two other pinholes nearby. These are at the top of the cover so are not immersed in gear oil but do need to be sealed. I'm trying to avoid buying a new cover at over £50! |

There's always the tin bath repair!!! Penny washer and bolt............but check clearance with crown wheel. Second hand covers are avialable. |

JB Weld. Americans always rave about the stuff. I wasn't convinced until I found some locally and it does seem to work really well. It's an epoxy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J-B_Weld |

These do seem to be made from very low grade steel. I treated and painted mine in the 80s and was disapointed to find it had a lot of corrosion when I did the fibre washers a few years ago. It hadnt perforated but I can see thats possible. On the plus side the axle breather could block without causing any pressure build up. |
