MG MGB Technical - Peter Burgess Retiring?

Hi All,

Contrary to popular belief (hope :) ?) at Silverstone, I hate to say it but I am not ready to retire (wife won't let me for a start!) just yet!.

At 52 (still feel 18, don't we all till we drop?), unfortunately, unless I win the lottery, I will have to work forever!

Some say I don't charge enough to retire :)

That's a relief, I need a head!

Peter,

At 60 (still feel 30'ish these days) I plan two more years for work, but like you probably only fooling myself. Father said, choose your trade wisely you'll be at it a long time, he was right. Humor may all we really have in the end, good to see you still have yours!

Regards,

L.C.

I "retired" some 4 years ago - I haven't stopped since!

It is nearly 10 years since I started Octarine as a "retirement hobby job" with the idea of just running it for 10 years. That time has flown and I get some very worried faces when I mention my plan. It doesn't look likely that I will stick to my plan - I already have work that will carry me into my 11th year.

So Peter - here's to a few more years of you providing the heads for Octarine engines

A couple of weeks ago, I spent a day at Peter's while they fitted a new head to my MGB GT.

At lunchtime, I strolled along the little cafe by the station that Peter had suggested.

When the owner of the cafe brought me my food, she asked, "Are you visiting Peter Burgess's?"

I answered yes.

"I thought so," she said, "Don't take this the wrong way, but I could tell by the smell."

I find it easier to belive Peter has fitted carpet and bought a potted palm to grace the reception area at his unpretentious workshop than he is retiring. :-) . We will also be needing a high performace hydrogen fuel conversion soon so he cant retire.

Phew.

With John Twist closing University Motors here in the States, The heading of this thread had me worried.

Peter. I can only wish I was able to ship my 67 GT across the pond to have you work your magic on it.

Great to here the news Peter.. or should I say lack of news on the retirement front.

I have one of your heads freshly installed (under Chris Betson's guidance) and ready to head out for a scoot tomorrow. I'm looking forward to experiencing your unique skills and am happy to hear that many others will have the same opportunity for some time to come.

Reception area?? Do you mean the ramp outside or the corner by the tea urn???
