MG MGB Technical - Piston Offset
I have a set of County pistons that I believe have direction arrows in the wrong direction. How can I validate this is indeed correct? Is there a diagram to help identify which direction is really front based on the offset? Assembled piston/connecting rods to crank, with oil holes on opposite side of camshaft, but connecting rods (on #2 & #3) are interfering with the main diameter of the camshaft. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Which engine do you have? |

I have a 1972 18V engine, stock connecting rods & connecting bolts & nuts, stock camshaft. Thank you. |

The gudgeon pin is offset to the thrust side, the opposite side to the camshaft in the B series. |

OK, just so that it is perfectly clear, the distance from the center-line of the gudgeon pin to the edge of the piston is shorter on the same side as the oil hole on the connecting rod? Both are on opposite side of camshaft? See attached picture: A dimension is shorter than B. Thank you. ![]() |

Could you put a pic on of the bottom side of your engine --------with the rods in |

As Willie said, correct - the oil hole is supposed to provide a bit of splash to the thrust side. |

Also check that the heads of your bigend bolts are seated into the rods correctly as they can hit if not And also if the timing chain isn't on or if cam timing is way out the sides of some camlobes can foul the side of the conrod in the area near the head of the bigend bolt ------willy |
